Or could it be that others have managed to obtain cover but unlike Harina, haven´t bothered to share their experience?
It´s all together or nothing
Health Service :: Under 18s cannot be denied Healthcare, is this true or not ? :: Reply by Harina
Hi,
I simply went to the local health centre and spoke to the social worker there.
I said I wanted to apply for our daughter to have a SIP card under the Ley of the minor.
she knew what I was talking about and we filled in a form
I had to provide a copy of her Residencia and then a copy of the padron to show she lived here.
I also had to show two bank statemts to show our income
the social worker took copies of everything and we then waited
After 2 weeks I went back but she said it was a long winded application
Eventually after a total of 4 weeks we got the card. Its a proper plastic SIP and it is dated for two years.

Hello Harina
It was with great joy and relief to read that you have a SIP card for your child and that it lasts for 2 years. Wonderful!
Denise and Alison I know will be happy to read that you have managed to obtain your child's entitlement to healthcare here in Valencia.
Now we know that at least in Pinoso, every child has the right to protection and healthcare, as stated by the SINDIC, I bet pregnant women are entitled too!!
So, now we have to find out the names of medical centres and town halls that do not offer correct advice or simply do not know what citizens rights are including children up to the age of 18 and where they are located in towns & villages.
Abrigo Blanco, hola amigo. It is nice to hear from you again, and yes, we do need legal help / support. We are in touch with a lawyer infact, who says he will negotiate on our behalf.. at last!
A little bird told me that Orihuela / Orihuela Costa will be just one of the town halls / medical centres named - bets anyone ???
Can you help please everyone that reads this, we need this information to pressure the Valencian authorities to behave responsibly to their citizens / residents, those of us that live here and want to stay - paying our way, via taxes, infact we pay their wages !!
Contact : Admin@puma22.org if you have tried to claim for your child / children and tried to claim for Sin Recursos, (low income) and been turned down.
If you have tried to register on the unemployment register, after trying for ages to find employment with no joy, you have the right to register even if you have not paid into the spanish system and not contributed - just try and get on the system - let us know if you are turned down and where ?
We can follow up your claim if you would like us to. Admin - PUMA22
Health Service :: MINISTER OF STATE FOR EUROPE VISITED TORREVIEJA :: Reply by Pauline
PUMA22 thank the British Ambassador to Spain – Sir Giles Paxman and Mr Chris Bryant Minister of State for Europe and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for visiting Torrevieja this weekend, giving the Ex-pat community a chance to ask questions on various problems faced by the British Expats in Valencia.
Michael John Holloway, the Consul General arranged a public meeting at 'Hotel Cabo Cervera, Ctra. Torrevieja a La Mata s/n 03188 Torrevieja. 6th March where approx 150 attended.
Due to the very high level of interest shown in the visit of the Minister of State for Europe the Consulate introduced a registration process to ensure all those who wished to attend had the opportunity to do so. As you are aware, the only way for any changes to be made are through the politicians, this was our golden opportunity to tell our British government officials, those who really do have some clout, what is happening here regarding healthcare and other problems, exactly how we feel, and what we would want them to do. Remember you have paid all your working life into the UK system, what are you getting in return, nothing!
Chris Bryant - Minister of State for Europe promised to look into healthcare provision for children up to the age of 18 and pregnant women. PUMA22 were informed by the SINDIC de Greuges that ALL children and pregnant women have the right to protection and healthcare and will advise the Minister when we meet the Consul General on Wednesday 10th March.
PUMA22 would like to thank all their members that came to the event. This has the potential to be a tremendous breakthrough for us. This was your opportunity to show how you really feel. Several people spoke of their hurt and pain for being let down and abandoned by the British Government. One gentleman gave a very emotional account of how living here in the Valencian region has made him and the majority of us feel, second class citizens, that we British are not wanted here in Valencia, only our money, which is very limited now due to the poor exchange rate, including those not yet affected by the health scam (sorry, scheme). We are not ‘health scroungers or free loaders as reported in the Spanish press, we contribute to the Spanish system simply by living here, but for how long, many Ex-pats are returning to the UK where they know they will be treated with respect and be offered healthcare in return for paying their taxes, whereas here in Valencia, they do not.
PUMA22 can only do so much - now it is up to you. Don't leave this to everybody else - you need to be involved to, join PUMA22, register in the community forum and have your say.

I went to the meeting yesterday with the Minister of State for Europe. The meeting I felt went very well but I feel we have walked away with promises of looking into some cases but overall we were being told that it was our choice to live here. It was good to tell them that we have felt unwanted and abandoned but I still feel we are no further to resolving this dire situation that people are in. What will it take before someone really does take notice of us. They did promise to look at the child healthcare issue. We need to keep up the pressure and keep fighting. I am sure in the next 12 months when it will start to effect the Spanish with all their healthcare cuts and pension woes we will be standing side by side and hopefully all the political parties here and in the UK will take note. It will effect the economy of Spain and will have considerable consequences in the long term. I am sure one day it will change, it has too for Spain to survive. But we must keep up the pressure. I cannot believe that so few attended the meeting surely there are more people that are affected by this . Puma 22 cannot fight this on their own we need people to support us as we are working for everyone not just ourselves.

I also attended the meeting. Perhaps the low turnout was the fact that people had to register and also that the local newspaper gave the time as 19.00.
I feel the Minister was being honest in that he has no jurisdiction in Spain but will try to apply pressure to the Valencian Authorities. UK does not make the laws in Spain and yes by coming here we have to abide by their laws. Valencia was very wrong to change the existing law but that is not the fault of the UK government.
We are, for the moment, paying out the 540€ every 3 months and as a result are not spending any money on anything but essentials so are not supporting local resturants etc. The Valencia area got all our money every month anyway, the only difference now is that it is all paid to a Health Insurance scheme.
Where do we go from here? More pressure on Valencia is the only answer as they are the only ones who can rectify their error.

You are totally right Margaret we do need to put pressure on the Valencians. I think that until it affects the Spanish then it will be difficult as we are only a minority but it will come, I am sure. We are a family of 3 and cannot afford this scheme in any circumstances and private healthcare is out of the question because of pre existing illnesses. So for the moment we are running the gauntlet. No problem though if we do have an emergency we can land on the UK`s doorstep and somebody will treat us so Mr Bryant says LOL. I forgot to say at that meeting `What about our human rights`or did I mislay them when we arrived in 2004.

I too was at the meeting in Torrevieja I also agree with Margaret that the U.K can't change Spanish laws and if they could they would, I feel it is now our place to put pressure on the Valencian Health Authority as I feel nothing has been done since the demo in December, we need to let them know we are still here and still fighting strong TOGETHER so come on what is our next course of action as I for one am ready to go who else is.

As a staunch supporter of PUMA 22 and the fight against the withdrawal of free health care. I gave my apologese for not being there as I was away in the UK....re registering with my old surgery.
I am dissapointed at the reported low turn out, have people lost heart and resigned themselves to paying into this farsical health insurance scam. We too, along with Denise are as she describes, 'running the gauntlet'. It doesn't look like the Authorities are going to back down on this but we have to keep fighting until they get sick of us, pardon the pun.
